Toni Lander (Toni Pihl Petersen, 1940-1985) trained at the school of the Royal Danish Ballet in Copenhagen, after which she joined the Royal Danish Ballet. The Ballet West, originally known as the Utah Civic Ballet, was established as a professional Ballet company in 1963. The company was jointly founded by Mrs. John M. Wallace and William F. Christensen. Christensen served as Artistic Director of the Ballet West from its inception until he founded his own academy of dance.
